Commencement is a very special occasion that happens only once a year and is a once-in-a-lifetime event for our students and their families. As a campus community, we can help ensure this is a memorable day for all by helping to facilitate the activities and participating in the celebration. Volunteers are an essential component to the success of this milestone event, and this year your help is more important than ever.
Commencement will be on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17. Departmental ceremonies will be held on both days and the main college-wide ceremony will take place 5:30 p.m., on Thursday evening, May 16. Special changes are planned for this year’s main ceremony, and we look forward to a wonderful celebration. In the event of severe weather, the main ceremony will be moved to Fridaymorning at 10:30 a.m.
On May 16, volunteer shifts will be scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Because activities run into the evening hours, volunteers will be needed beyond the regular workday. Those volunteering beyond their regularly scheduled workday will receive compensatory time. This time may be used on a date/time approved by your supervisor. All volunteers must check in with the volunteer coordinator at the beginning and end of their shifts in order for compensatory time to be recorded.
On May 17, volunteer shifts will be scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Volunteer opportunities are numerous and include staffing information booths, providing directional assistance to families and graduates, and aiding with ceremony seating, parking, and the processional.
Shifts will be filled in 4–5 hour increments. You are encouraged to sign up for one or more shifts on both Thursday and Friday.
