Panera Bread set to open in TCNJ's Campus Town

EWING -- Panera Bread will open its newest restaurant on Monday in The College of New Jersey's Campus Town.

The bakery-cafe chain known for its combination of soups, salads and sandwiches will anchor the northern end of the mixed-use development.

Students first moved into the $120 million Campus Town in August and since then, retailers have slowly been opening shop. Panera now joins Barnes & Noble, Spencer Savings Bank, RedBerry Frozen Yogurt, Verizon Wireless and Piccolo Pronto.

But unlike the others which have student apartments on the upper floors, Panera has a standalone 4,300-square-foot building with a drive-through window.

"It has a lot of choices and it's going to bring something that we don't have right now in Campus Town," said Greg Lentine, developer PRC's director of university campus development.

Panera last year announced plans to remove more than 150 artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners and preservatives from its menu items by the end of 2016.

The restaurant will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday's opening will be marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
