TCNJ surpasses $40 million fundraising milestone

With five months still to go, The Campaign for TCNJ has eclipsed its $40 million fundraising goal, TCNJ President R. Barbara Gitenstein announced today. A $100,000 gift from alumnus Leo Kelly ’97, which will support talented students from Allentown, Bordentown, and Trenton, New Jersey, pushed total giving past this milestone.

Campaign co-chairs Barbara Meyers Pelson ’59 and Allen Silk expressed sincere thanks to the 11,891 donors whose generosity has gotten us to this point, but were quick to note that our work is not done.

“This campaign has never been about simply reaching a dollar goal,” they wrote in a message to volunteers. “Its purpose is to provide the vital support the college needs to fulfill its important mission—to continue to innovate, inspire, and engage future generations of students.”

To that end, Pelson and Silk have signaled that the campaign will continue at full throttle until it reaches the June 30 finish line.

“There are still many prospects with the desire to give but who have not yet made their gift,” they said. “There is still time for them to be a part of this historic moment.”

This milestone is all the more remarkable because prior to embarking on the campaign, experts told the college that raising just $25 million would be difficult.

”I’ve always felt that if we were to undertake the enormous effort of mounting a comprehensive campaign, we would have to do better,” said Gitenstein. “And so $40 million was our stretch goal.”

With five months left in the five-year campaign, Pelson and Silk see it as only fitting that we stretch again to see how much further we can go for the cause.

“We are, after all, in the home stretch,” they noted.
