TCNJ faculty and students will soon have an enhanced opportunity to develop innovative solutions to issues facing urban communities, thanks to a $175,000 commitment from NJM Insurance Group.

This announcement comes on the heels of the news that The Campaign for TCNJ surpassed its $40 million fundraising milestone, and Dr. Gitenstein’s pledge to stretch the campaign goal by an additional $5 million by June 30, 2017.

The first of its kind at TCNJ, the NJM Insurance Group Urban Innovation Fund will support the work of faculty and students as they focus on issues facing urban communities through research, teaching, learning, and service.

“As hometown neighbors, NJM and TCNJ enjoy a long-standing relationship and we are pleased to increase our support through endowment of the college’s new Urban Innovation Fund. This program will enable faculty and students to engage directly on challenges and opportunities in our urban communities,” said Mike Van Wagner, NJM’s Vice President of Public Affairs.

Specifically, the fund will support junior tenure-track faculty members and help them meet and exceed the rigorous standards necessary to achieve tenure.

“An opportunity to offer additional support to our faculty engaged in work that enriches student learning, supports their own professional development, and benefits our community – it’s a win-win-win, and we are grateful to NJM, ” said Jacqueline Taylor, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at TCNJ.

Beginning July 2017, the endowment will offer two $3,500 grants annually, which will be available to faculty from all disciplines.

This commitment follows NJM Insurance Group’s longtime support of the college, including scholarships, the Bonner Community Scholar program, and STEM facilities.
