TCNJ gets active in fighting hunger

EWING, NJ … The College of New Jersey’s co-ed, community service fraternity is hoping to double the success of a race charity for local food shelters.

On the morning of Oct. 16, Alpha Phi Omega (APO) will hold its second-annual “Feed Our Friends 5K and Fun Walk,” which generated $3,000 for three local charities last year. The service organization’s 80 student members are organizing the event themselves and are seeking sponsors to help cover the costs.

“Feed Our Friends” is APO’s biggest event of the year — at its first event, over 200 people registered to run and walk in support of the community.

Registration fees are $15 for the 5K and $10 for the fun walk before Oct. 7. All proceeds will be donated to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen and Homefront, a non-profit that provides services for the homeless in Mercer County. APO is also collecting non-perishable food items as an added donation.

Those interested in participating can register online or mail in a check. The registration form can be found on APO’s website (www.tcnj.edu/~aphio) by clicking on the “TCNJ 5K!” link on the home page.

For more information about participation or sponsorship, contact APO at aphio@tcnj.edu.
