Re: A Request for Proposals—2013-14 Teachers as Scholars Program Professional Commitment
The College of New Jersey has embraced the TAS program. During the current academic year 12 of the 15 TAS programs will be presented. To date all of our programs which have been presented have received rave reviews from the teachers. By the conclusion of the 2012-13 approximately 100 programs will have been presented by approximately 45 TCNJ professors. Over 1000 teachers will have participated in the programs.
The College of New Jersey is proud to serve as a host to such a prestigious program as the Teachers as Scholars program and equally proud of our faculty for its willingness to lead such a unique staff development program for teachers. Although professors from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences has taken the lead in offering TAS seminars, professors from the Schools of Science, Arts and Communication, Engineering and Education also have contributed to the program.
TAS Seminars
The purpose of the seminars is to recognize outstanding teacher scholars who along with TCNJ professors share a passion about a subject or topic in the areas of liberal arts and sciences about which they wish to learn more. Through their participation in TAS seminars, teachers will have the opportunity to gain greater understanding and knowledge through the intellectual discourse which will take place during the seminars. During their experience in the TAS the teachers will gain a sense of renewal, recognition and expansion of their intellectual, personal and professional development. During the 2013-14 academic year, each seminar will be conducted on the campus of The College of New Jersey where all of the participants will be special guests of The College. Each program will consist of two full day seminars spaced about a week or two apart. Approximately 10 to 20 teachers will participate in each seminar. These seminars will promote intellectual growth on the part of the teachers and professors alike and will engage everyone in stimulating and thought provoking discussions focused on the seminar topics. These seminars are designed first and foremost to enrich, expand and stimulate the intellectual and creative development of teachers. Professors who have presented before as well as new professors are encouraged to submit proposals.
2013-14 Teacher as Scholars Program RFP Requirements
Name of Topic and a description for the brochure—– (See 2011-12 brochure for format.) The topic should be one about which you are passionate and is of intellectual and academic significance. Indicate the days of the week your prefer offering the seminars. Topics in all academic areas are of great interest especially topics related to the school districts’ subjects of history, literature, government, politics, international studies, religious studies, economics, art, music, anthropology, political science and government, gender studies, mathematics, ethics and sciences.
Professor —Please include a brief vita. (See 2012-13 brochure for format.) List required book(s) and the isbn numbers. List Preferred Days of the Week: (Please list two sets of days.) List Semester Preference, if no preference, please list no preference. (School districts prefer October through April dates.) List any DATE (s) that should be avoided.
Program Requirements
Two (2) day-long seminars: 2013-14 Academic Year • 8:30-9:00 AM– Registration and Refreshments • 9:00-12:00–AM Session • 1:00-3:00 PM Session Professor Stipend: $1000 for two day seminar.

This program was initially funded by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. TCNJ was one of approximately 30 colleges nationwide to have received this grant.
