Dicheck Captures 400th Coaching Win

Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey men's tennis team defeated Muhlenberg College, 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the TCNJ Tennis Complex.

The victory marked the 400th in the coaching career of Scott Dicheck at TCNJ. Dicheck, who leads both the men's and women's programs at the college, now has a combined record of 400-142 (.737) in his 17th season with the Lions. A total of 172 wins have come on the men's side and 228 with the women's team.

Another milestone is within close grasp for another member of the TCNJ tennis family. Senior Mike Stanley (Newtown, NJ/Council Rock North) won both of his matches against the Mules and now has 98 combined career victories. Two more wins and Stanley will join teammate Jack August, who notched his 100th in March. It's been a year checkered with milestones in the program as women's standout Anna Prestera registered her 100th win this past fall.

TCNJ raised its season record to 11-3 overall with the victory over Muhlenberg. They swept all six singles and doubles in straight sets. August did not lose a single game at second singles, while Stanley, Chris D'Agostino (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) and Tim Gavornik (Millington, NJ/Watchung Hills) all posted 6-0, 6-1 triumphs. The dominant victory made the day of tennis a little easier to enjoy for Dicheck and his staff.

During his standout tenure at TCNJ, Dicheck has made 16 NCAA appearances with the women's program and nine with the men. The spring will mark the 17th for the women and the Lions' men are looking very good to make it his 10th NCAA tournament. The women's team competes in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA championships this spring by winning the conference this past fall. As head coach, Dicheck owns a career mark of 89-0 in NJAC matches. Men's tennis is not a sponsored sport by the NJAC, so the Lions must rely on earning an at-large bid to qualify for NCAAs.

The men's team is back in action tomorrow when they visit Ursinus College for a dual match scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
