TCNJ’s Interactive Multimedia BA degree ranks nationally among best in game design

The College of New Jersey’s Department of Interactive Multimedia has been ranked among the top 25 schools nationally that offer a Bachelor of Arts in Game Design, according to Animation Career Review.

Animation Career Review considered 144 schools across the U.S. in preparing the 2019 rankings. Rankings have been published annually since 2013.

“This is a significant acknowledgement of Assistant Professor Josh Fishburn’s work and the contributions of our colleagues,” says Teresa Nakra, associate professor and department chair for IMM. “I am so very proud of their efforts to create valuable learning opportunities for our students by efficiently and strategically leveraging our resources.”

The criteria that were used for the rankings consisted of the following:

  • academic reputation
  • admission selectivity
  • depth and breadth of the program
  • value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness
  • geographic location
  • employment data (new for 2019)

TCNJ’s IMM curriculum features an ever-evolving mix of intermediate and advanced courses that explore opportunities where established disciplines such as animation, storytelling, music, sound, and programming intersect and weave into video games. The major also enables students to explore the possibilities presented by new technology, such as digital fabrication and augmented reality.

IMM students have completed internships at Amazon, MTV, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks, and NFL Films, and many graduates have found positions at major companies and studios such as Nickelodeon, TIME, Etsy, and MakerBot. Graduates have also entered graduate programs at top art, design, and technology programs at Columbia University, Georgia Institute of Technology, School of Visual Arts, New York University, Savannah College of Art and Design, and the SMU Guildhall game development program.
