Lore Elementary School students are test subjects for Avery Faigenbaum’s balloon fitness routine

The Ewing Observer writes about the youth fitness training program that Avery Faigenbaum, a professor of exercise science at The College of New Jersey, is testing at the Lore Elementary School in Ewing. Faigenbaum’s workout program uses balloons to get second graders lunging, spinning, jumping, throwing and catching. He plans to measure the regimen’s effectiveness by determining whether the students show improvements in overall physical fitness – running, jumping and flexibility – at the program’s end.

Klezmer band’s roots lie in education

TCNJ’s Avery Faigenbaum in the New York Times in Phys Ed: The Benefits of Weight Training for Children

Avery Faigenbaum, a professor of exercise science at The College of New Jersey, was quoted extensively in an article in the New York Times on youth strength training and the research by Faigenbaum and others that challenges long-held beliefs about the harmful effects of resistance training on children. Faigenbaum, a widely acknowledged expert on the subject, commented, “The scientific literature is quite clear that strength training is safe for young people, if it’s properly supervised.”

RWJF Nursing Faculty Program Awards Scholarships

Two TCNJ nursing students, Caitlin Fett and Alexander Manning, received scholarships from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s New Jersey Nursing Initiative Faculty Preparation Program. The scholarships address New Jersey’s nursing faculty shortage by supporting students seeking graduate degrees. The program partners with the New Jersey Education Collaborative, four state-funded colleges and universities.

Avery Faigenbaum, professor of exercise science at The College of New Jersey, was quoted in an article for the Wall Street Journal that focused on the recent youth strength training phenomenon. The article cited his recent paper on the topic issued by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He explained, “”I’m not a fan of strength training at home unless Mom or Dad has a background in PE and understands pediatric strength-training guidelines.”

Galloway earns silver status, seeks gold in sustainability

The Press of Atlantic City reported on Galloway Township taking strides to become a sustainable community, according to Sustainable Jersey, a certification program based out of The College of New Jersey.
